What is Rupall?
Rupall (rupatadine) is a medication that relieves allergic rhinitis symptoms, commonly known as hay fever.
Allergic rhinitis can initiate symptoms that occasionally include a runny nose, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, or congestion.
Rupall is for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis, sometimes seasonal reliant, and perennial allergic rhinitis which is not seasonal. It is a prescription-only drug to be used in adults and children more than 2 years old.
It is also used to treat chronic spontaneous urticaria, also known as autoimmune hives: a condition that causes hives-raised, itchy bumps on the skin and itching, without evidence of an apparent cause.
Rupall must be avoided by patients suffering from allergy to rupatadine or any other component of the drug. The drug is also contraindicated in patients who have had a history of rhythm disturbances, such as QT prolongation, that though may be an abnormal heart rhythm still has the potential of becoming dangerous.
Since Rupall tablets contain lactose, Rupall is contraindicated in lactose intolerant patients.
How Does Rupall Work?
Rupall is classified as an antihistamine, an agent for the blockage of the action of histamine, a body chemical involved with most allergy symptoms being itching, sneezing, and runny nose.
It is a second-generation antihistamine falling in the family of medicines that cause less drowsiness than older types.
Rupall also blocks another chemical called platelet-activating factor, which is involved in inflammation.
Together, they have been proven to reduce allergic symptoms and urticaria symptoms as fast as 24 hours after taking the medication.

Warnings and Precautions
- Avoid using Rupall with ketoconazole and other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors: These drugs interfere with Rupall’s breakdown in the body, increasing the risk of side effects.
- Avoid combining Rupall with erythromycin and other moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors: Medications like fluconazole and diltiazem can affect how Rupall is processed, so they should be avoided together.
- Be cautious when using Rupall with medications that have a narrow therapeutic window: Drugs with a small safe dose range may interact with Rupall, increasing the risk of side effects.
- Rupall does not affect driving or machine use, but caution is advised: Wait until you know how Rupall affects you before driving or operating machinery.
- Rupall may cause QTc interval prolongation: This change in heart rhythm could lead to dangerous arrhythmias or heart problems.
- Risk of torsade de pointes: A serious heart condition that may cause dizziness, fainting, or sudden death; people with a history of heart rhythm issues should avoid Rupall.
- Avoid using Rupall with other QTc-prolonging drugs or CYP3A4 inhibitors: Combining these drugs with Rupall increases the risk of serious heart issues.
- Rupall is not recommended for people with liver problems: There is no data on how it affects people with liver disease, so its use should be avoided.
- Rare allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported: Severe allergic reactions such as swelling or difficulty breathing may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.
- Oral solution may cause allergic reactions: The solution form contains preservatives that could trigger allergies in sensitive individuals.
- Muscle pain and weakness have been reported: Rupall can cause muscle issues, especially when used with statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs).
- Rupall is not recommended for people with kidney problems: Limited data on its use in patients with kidney issues means it should be avoided.
- Pregnant women should avoid Rupall unless advised by a doctor: There isn’t enough research on its safety during pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding women should avoid Rupall unless recommended by a doctor: It is unknown if Rupall passes into breast milk.
- Children under 12 years should use the oral solution: The tablet form isn’t recommended for younger children, and Rupall should not be used at all in children under 2 years.
- Older adults may need extra caution: Elderly patients may be more sensitive to Rupall, so it should be used carefully.
- Rupall may increase liver enzymes: Some people may experience higher liver enzyme levels, which could indicate liver issues.
Overdosage of Rupall
If you overdose in Rupall, it is relatively nontoxic even at higher doses as a single dose of 100 mg per day for 6 days. It usually causes drowsiness.
Even though ingestion of huge quantities of Rupall had taken place, the patient should be treated in case any symptom appears.
It may also require supportive care, like monitoring vital signs and making the patient comfortable.
Drug Interactions With Other Medications
- QTc Prolonging Drugs: A patient on either of the drugs Rupall should not be administered drugs that prolong the QTc interval. That is, the prolongation of the QTc interval causes hazardous abnormal heart rhythms.
- CYP3A4 Inhibitors Rupall with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors: Ketoconazole or erythromycin may elevate the plasma concentration level of Rupall, therefore increasing side effects. Therefore, these drugs should be administered concomitantly.
- Electrolyte-Depleting Drugs: Rupall must be avoided and should not be used with drugs that cause an electrolyte defect as this defect may lead to heart problems.
- Lorazepam: In combination with Rupall, there was no alteration in the CNS and the brain. These can be administered without any adverse effects.
- CNS Depressants: Because Rupall is also an antihistaminic like all others, it may interact with a CNS-active drug including a sedative or tranquilizer, which may result in increased drowsiness and/or slower response times.
- Statins: Rupall might interact with statins, cholesterol-lowering drugs. Both are metabolized by the same liver enzyme and probably could be associated with an increased risk of developing muscle problems.
- CYP3A4 Substrates: Agents in this class that are metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme, for example, simvastatin or ciclosporin should have their dose titrated on coadministration with Rupall because of increased levels of those drugs from the body.
- Grapefruit Juice: Grapefruit juice enhances Rupall levels in the blood by as high as 3.5 fold when taken in combination with this drug. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice should be avoided during treatment with this drug.
- Alcohol: The effect of Rupall will be amplified or the drug will disrupt someone’s ability to think clearly and to respond appropriately.
